This past weekend Colton and I flew to Los Angeles to visit one of my best friends while Cory went to Phoenix to play golf. We planned it so that both of our flights left at about the same time so Cory could help me get to the airport. We left for the airport at 4:45am for our 7:15am flights. Everything went great up until we began checking our bags. At this time they asked for Colton's birth certificate to prove that he was under 2 years of age since he was a lap child. Oooooops--not something we had thought about! Luckily my mom came to the rescue because we had scanned it a long time ago and it was in my email still so she pulled it up and sent it to the airline. Colton was being terrible at this point because he decided to wake up in the car on the way to the airport and not go back to sleep so he was exhausted. We said good-bye to Cory and waited to board our plane. I was sooooo nervous at this point since this was the first time to be on the plane with Colton. The flight was completely packed so he did not have his own seat which is what we had hoped for. The first hour was somewhat rough because he was just a little busy body and over tired. Eventually he settled down to watch Little Einsteins and passed out. He stayed that way until about 20 min before landing.
We landed at 8:30am (which was really 10:30 our time) and Caroline picked us up. We headed to Venice to get the extra carseat from Jon's car and after stopping to put it in we realized the tire was completley flat! We pulled over and decided to get some lunch at
Brick House Cafe. When we got back to the car we had two options: 1. Take Jon's car and let him deal with it when he got off work 2. Use a can of fix a flat that Caroline had in the back. We decided we would just handle it ourself and use the fix a flat. Caroline read all the directions and began to take care of it but when she pushed the button the can exploded everywhere. A very nice guy was walking by and said he thought all we needed to do was put the nozzle back in. So he proceeded to do that and when he pushed the button it exploded again. It got all in this poor guys eye and some in Caroline's mouth. Aggg!! At this point we decided to choose Option 1 and let Jon take care of it when he got off work. We headed to Caroline's to put the boys down for a nap. After (short) naps we went to
Dockweiler Beach to let the boys run around for a bit. The water is so cold that we just played in the sand. Colton had a wonderful time and left the beach covered in sand--I am pretty sure he ate quite a bit as well. After the beach we went to
Good Stuff for a yummy dinner! After all that excitment and short naps the boys were ready for bed so we headed home and put them down.
Saturday morning we got up and walked to
Blue Butterfly for the best bagel I have ever had! After breakfast we went back to the apartment to get dressed for the
Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. Colton liked seeing the fish from the comfort of his stroller. He wasn't too thrilled with getting out and getting close to the windows. At about 1:30 we headed back to Caroline's where she had a babysitter waiting to put the boys down for naps while we went to do some shopping. Our first stop was
The Promenade where we had a late lunch at
Barney's Beanery. After that we did some shopping--Anthropologie, Gap and H&M. Caroline wanted to get some kids clothes at H&M but this location did not have them so we decided to head to
The Beverly Center to check out their H&M. After that we had planned to make a visit to
Sprinkles Cupcakes. However we didn't get to do that because they closed at 7pm and we were just entering The Beverly Center at 6:45pm. Instead we headed to
The Grove where we experienced the best Gap ever. They had everything they sell in that store (most of the time I can not find most of it except online). We were really wanting dessert since we had such a late lunch and didn't really want dinner so we decided to get some cheesecake from
The Cheesecake Factory. It was really crowded so we got it to go--even after looking at the menu and seeing the calories in each piece. We couldn't believe they posted them!! I loved every single calorie!! When we got home the boys were in bed and I was ready for bed so Caroline and Jon went out for a little late night date.
Sunday morning we got up and went to church at Redondo Beach United Methodist. It was so fun to see where Caroline works! Colton went right into the nursery with Mitchell and didn't even fuss when I left. He was actually very disappointed when I got there to get him. He didn't want to leave!! After church we grabbed some lunch and went back to Caroline's in hopes of getting Colton to take a nap before leaving for the airport. Colton had other plans though and did not nap at all! At about 2:00 we headed to the airport and he fell asleep immediatley in the car--too bad they only live 5 min from the airport. I did manage to keep him asleep while transferring him to the stroller and all the way through checking in. Then it was time to go through security and they made me take him out of the stroller which woke him up--since I was alone and had to fold the stroller, put my bags up on the belt and remove shoes and some jewelry. Not easy with a 25lb kid sleeping on you. When he woke up he was NOT happy to be awake at all and screamed until it was time for us to board. I even called Cory at one point and told him he was going to have to fly to Cali to get me cause I wasn't getting on a plane with him. Poor baby was just tired! Our flight was delayed but they assured us we would make our connection (where Cory was waiting on us). Colton was very active on the plane and fell asleep about 5 min before we landed in Phoenix. When we landed and I looked at my clock we had 15 min until our connecting flight was to take off and we hadn't even deboarded the plane. We got off and ran all the way across the airport to our next gate and barely made it on the plane. There were only 2 seats left and they were not together. Cory took Colton to give me a break and a few min later he came to get me because the man next to him wanted to switch seats with him--he wasn't too thrilled with sitting by my rowdy little man. It worked out good for us though! Colton slept for most of that flight and we made it home all in one piece.
We had a wonderful time and I am glad that I got the first flight under my belt! We took a ton of pictures so you can check them out
here under July.
Love,
